The Wooden Cabinet

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The project that started it all off…

Mike’s introduction to woodworking & DIY was at school when he made this amazing cabinet for his DT GCSE.

It was this project that sparked an interest in making furniture, and an appreciation for the creative process. Mike loved the satisfaction of coming up with an idea, designing it on paper, then going through the many steps to create it – from building the main frame to finishing off the bevelled edges and adding in glass panels.

Mike’s still not sure if he wants to add legs to it, but for now it has served us well and been useful as a floor cabinet in every home we’ve lived in, from a bedside cabinet to (currently) housing paperwork. It lives in the fireplace of our dining room, and is particularly popular with kids for some reason – maybe it’s the opening and closing of tiny doors?!
